Located in the southeast of Dongcheng District, the Jianguomen area covers some 2.6 square kilometers, in which there are 333 departments of the Central Government and Dongcheng District Council, such as the Chinese Academy of Social Science, Ministry of Communication and the All-China Women's Federation. The area also features 11 historical and cultural sites under state protection, including the Ancient Observatory.
