On the afternoon of June 5, 2005, the International Forum on "Volunteer Service & People's Olympics" opened in Beijing under the joint sponsorship of the Coordination Panel of Beijing Olympic Volunteers and the BOCOG Department of Human Resources.
Nearly 100 Chinese and international experts and representatives of volunteer groups attended the forum. BOCOG Executive Vice-President Li Binghua introduced the Beijing Olympic Volunteer Program and the "Action Plan of Beijing Olympic Volunteers" at the meeting.
Chief Executive Officer of the 2000 Sydney Olympics Sandy Holloway and Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Ad de Raad also made speeches at the forum.
The forum held separate speech sessions on the morning of June 6. The attendants focused their discussions on three topics, namely, "Meditation and Suggestions on the Beijing Olympic Volunteer Service," "Experience and Inspiration from Previous Olympic Volunteer Services," "Volunteer Services and Establishment of a Harmonious Society."
On the afternoon of June 6, volunteers, officials of the Beijing Volunteers Association and experts sat in an interactive session to have online dialogue with the public. The topic of the dialogue is "Volunteer Services during the Establishment of a Harmonious Society."
