(BEIJING, July 17) -- The "Olympic Cultural Square"
program, a component of the fourth "Beijing 2008" Olympic Cultural Festival,
concluded on Sunday night with thousands of Beijingers participating in the
Olympic-related cultural activities.
A closing ceremony was held at the International Sculpture
Park in Shijingshan District in west Beijing. Local artists and troupes from
neighboring Shanxi Province brought about colorful numbers such as dances, songs
and operas.
A lantern show was staged separately and concurrently in
the park, attracting a large number of visitors. The meticulously-designed
lanterns plus the new acoustic-optic technology featured traditional folk arts
and modern urban environment.
The weekend art performances at five of Beijing's much
frequented spots lasted for the whole process of the Olympic cultural festival
from June 24 to July 16, and Shijingshan Park was a key place of the
festivity.
Yang Shu'an, executive vice president of Beijing Organizing
Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and leading cultural
officials of Beijing and Shanxi attended the closing ceremony.
